Read some of the testimonials left by people who have experienced what The Edgemoor has to offer.
Also have a look on Trip Advisor , to see a wider range of testimonials (including some older and not so favourable ones, but hey, nobody's perfect). I recently enjoyed a lovely break at your most impressive hotel. I spend about 200 nights a year in hotels around the world and recognise that colleagues make a difference. From the warm and gracious arrival, to the professional and caring service in both your restaurants, and not forgetting the excellent housekeeping staff, the visit was simply faultless. The Savoy hotel is one of the most wonderful hosteleries in the world, justly famed for its exceptional levels of personalised service-indeed The Savoy can claim to have invented the luxury hotel-but a Savoy occasion is certainly matched by a visit to The Edgemoor. I wish you continued success and look forward to visiting Dartmoor and The edgemoor again.

We were recommended to this hotel by Mark who runs the Berrybrook Morgan car dealershio in Exminster. We knew nothing about the hotel before our stay - except that we would be staying on the first week-end of new ownership.
On our arrival we were greeted like old friends, and made incredibly welcome. The management and staff were all wonderful- friendly, helpful and very professional.
Our room was lovely - huge room, spotlessly clean, well-equipped with an enormous and very comfortable bed, overlooking the beautiful gardens.
The food was excellent - we stayed on a B,B and dinner basis, and enjoyed everything we had. The service was first class - friendly but discreet.

Food and service was first rate, location excellent and more importantly the staff could not do enough for us whether it be assisting with planning our days out locally or flexibility with meals etc.
We will certainly re-visit in the near future and would recommend a stay to anyone.

I spent a restful weeeknd at the Edgemoor Hotel with former work colleagues. The weather was awful but somehow it didn't matter. The room was comfortable. The lounge area attractive and relaxed. The open fires a definite bonus. The food was good and varied. The breakfasts particularly worthy of mention. The setting was very pleasant - in better weather we would have pottered about happily in the grounds or on nearby Dartmoor. The owners are new and keen to please with ambitious plans for the future. I want to go again.

Firstly, Ignore all the bad reviews. The new owners took over in August '08 and are trying their best to get the Hotel back to what it was!
The owners are really friendly, and we ate there 3 times on our 3 day trip to Devon. We have used the Edgemoor Restaurant for over 12 years, and we love the place. Because the owners are pretty new and the place is pretty big, it will take some more time for everything to settle properly. They are renovation the place, inc the rooms and have alot of new system in place which they are obviously getting used to.
The do a fantastic vegetarian selection, and went to the trouble of making us specific vegetarian nibbles with olives prior to ordering, and we weren't treated to confusion or frowns when we said we were vegetarian. And...the food was superb, no faults at all.
We also asked to see the bedrooms (specifically in the original part of the Hotel). These are undergoing renovation, and although really nice now, will be beautiful when finished based on the one which had been done.
The onlt thing you could possibly fault (and this is being highly critical) would be that the organisation was a little confused, but it didn't detract from the overall experience at all, it was obvious everyone was getting used to new equipment and 'till technology' which seemed recently installed. The relocation of the bar has made the Bistro Dining area a bit 'out of it' or forgotten about (particularly when the main dining room is also in use) as the staff would pass it as it is located between the kitchen / reception / bar and the main dining room and have no reason to go in there unless there was food to serve to the tables, which meant if you wanted add something to your order between courses you'd have to leave the Bistro and go looking for someone, so perhaps a rethink over how they use each lounge / dining area would improve the fluency of the operation. Also wan't too keen on the revised layout on our last day by adding lounge seating to the Bistro, which meant some people were sitting eating whilst being overlooked by post dinner people lounging.
We are definately going to book a room in the edgemoor when we retun to Devon later this year. It is great to see the place being injected with so much enthusiasm and to have such friendly owners at the helm.
Definately give it try, the location is beautiful, the staff and owners are great and really love the place, they even have big books tracing the history of the building. The food is fantastic, and the room are and will be stunning too.....Lastly good luck to the new folk there and we look forward to our return.

Ignore the reviews from before the new owners. We stayed here for 2 nights, we were meet with the friendliest of welcomes and all the way through the weekend nothing was too much trouble. The staff are all very friendly and enjoy telling you about the history of the hotel and the surrounding areas.
We had our meals in the hotel, Friday lunch was served outside and this was beautiful. We also ate in the restaurant and in the bistro and both of the rooms are lovely, especially in the evening with the lighting. The menu is full of mouthwatering dishes and the breakfasts are delicious. The nicest touch is to have drinks and canopy's in the lounge whilst waiting for your meal to be prepared.
The room we stayed in was spacious and had a terrace, which I believe you can stay in if you have a dog. The bathroom was large and had a corner bath which had a shower over.
I will be visiting this hotel again in the future and cannot wait to see all the changes the new owners are going to be carrying out in the New Year.

My husband and I stayed with you on Saturday 3rd March 2007 for one night and dined in the restaurant. We would both like to thank all the staff at the hotel and in the restaurant for an amazing stay. Although we only stayed for one night you all showed great kindness and hospitality. We had a fantastic meal and great wine. It was very relaxing and romantic, and a lovely treat. Thanks once again.

We would like to say a big thank you for your hospitality when we stayed wih you this last weekend. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in your beautifaul country house. Our room fitted in with the history of the house and when the sun shone the view over the garden was lovely. Having tea and coffee in the elegent lounge made us feel more than at home. We were so impressed that we invited our daughter and future son-in-law to catch the train from Exeter and join us before embarking on our day out with them. We had two fabulous evening meals, one in the restaurant and the other in the bistro. Both excellent, accompanied with wine from, what my husband described as 'a very impressive wine list indeed'. Full compliments to all your attentive staff for providing service witha capital S. Thank you again and I am sure we will come and stay with you in the future.
